Shreya Deshpande asked:

“Mind” is considered as the sixth perceptive organ of man; rather, all other organs perceive only after any thought or idea is processed and verified by mind.

Due to modern day stress and strain, almost all physical ailments are aptly correlated to the imbalance on mental plane. There may be mild psychoneurosis like hypochondriasis; i.e., over-reaction to negligible conditions, for example, a person might fear a heart attack by mere mild chest pain because of any other reason or there may be an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, i.e., a person compulsorily does some act which may be foolish to do otherwise. If he is not allowed to do what he is doing, then he becomes furious or depressed. Depression in itself is emerging as a major health problem now- a- days.

Homoeopathy believes that, overall health of a person is a homeostasis Between mind, body and soul. The physicality and mentality are equally important while treating diseases. Rather, Homoeopathy believes that it is not the disease to be treated, but the person as a whole. Because, just getting the investigation reports devoid of any abnormality is not enough but the person should feel on par with the surroundings. That’s why the patients getting treated by Homoeopathy often tell us that they are getting relieved of their mental anguish too apart from physical well being.

Unprompted decisive powers, over-reactive or over passive nature, Adjustment difficulties, indifference to the happenings in the surrounding, over possessiveness, pusillanimity (excess miserliness), hypervehemance (excess anger), insomnias (lack of sleep), unnecessary stresses, phobias etc. etc. are the ailments which though feel minor at times take possession of individuals by engulfing them. These often lead to one or more physical ailments. Here Homoeopathy plays a pivotal part in helping patient regain his or her lost harmony.

After collecting the history of actual facts, a Homoeopath differentiates between factual and imaginary aspects and decides the future line of treatment.

There are medicines like Natrum mur, Lycopodium, Pulsatilla, Acid fluor, Thuja, and many more that describe the personality of a patient individually. It will not be an exaggeration to say that Homoeopathic Materia Medica is a vast storehouse of different types of personalities and their respective troubles.

When an expert hand intelligently uses these medicines, they cause a revolution in the patient’s overall development and well being!

So, be devotees of homeopathy and master your bodily equilibrium!

Jimmy Cox asked:

There is much misapprehension about homoeopathy among physicians as well as among the laity. Among physicians there is a feeling that if we know the materia medica that is all that is required. The materia medica is indeed important, and its thorough comprehension and study is needed at all times; but unless the homoeopathic physician has a concept of the philosophy, of the reasons underlying the administration of the remedy, he will never make a careful homoeopathic physician.

One of the first and foremost elements with which the homoeopathic physician must be conversant is the different forms of energy, for it is on this basis only that we can prescribe homoeopathically. In Hahnemann’s Organon of the Healing Art he gives us the following:

In the healthy condition of man the spirit-like vital force, the dynamis that animates the material body, rules with unbounded sway and retains all the parts of the organism in admirable harmonious vital operation as regards both sensations and functions, so that our indwelling, reason-gifted mind can freely employ this living, healthy instrument for the higher purposes of our existence.

This was the first introduction to the medical world of the rational concept of life itself.

We recognize life in three parts, the body, the mind, and the spirit. This is a trinity, and this trinity is always present in all life and in some form in every part of our organism. These forces react in sympathy and are inter-dependent. (Vide Organon 43).

No organ, no tissue, no cell, no molecule, is independent of the activities of the others, but the life of each one of these elements is merged into the life of the whole. The unit of human life cannot be the organ, the tissue, the cell, the molecule, the atom, but the whole organism, the whole man.

The growth and development of each individual progress as it draws upon the physical energy, and upon the dynamic energy as it is manifest in the brain, and upon the spiritual energy. These different manifestations of energy are essentially different in their workings. The law of growth is the same in one as in another.

The influence of this vital force on the whole organism is so delicately adjusted and so intimately connected with every part, that seemingly distant organs or unrelated symptoms show the effects of any disturbance of the vital force; and no one can prophesy what the influence may be on the part of the economy or what direction will be taken by the manifestations in each individual, but his vital energy will direct the course with unerring precision.

In treating disease we are drawing upon another storehouse of dynamic force, which acts almost synchronously with the disturbed vital force that is in the body. The pace is similar, the symptoms are similar. We are dealing with the similar remedy. Dr. Boger illustrates this by the picture of the runaway train, where an engine is sent, not in the opposite direction to meet and combat force with force, but in the same direction, increasing in pace until it is equal in pace to the runaway; and it is then in a position to subdue its speed.

The action of the proven remedy is similar to the action of disease from whatever source. Disease first must be caused by a disturbance of the vital energy and that in itself sets in motion a train of symptoms exhibiting an exact picture of the way in which the vital energy is disturbed.

It is only from these pictures that we can gather an understanding of the inner workings of the sick individual. It is only through the careful observation of the proving of the potencies that we can know the action of any given remedy, to understand where it has made its impress on the vital force. The vital force is resilient and impressions not only show forth promptly but over a considerable period of time.

As has been seen, an understanding of the vital force is a necessity in the practice of homeopathy. It is crucial in an understanding of disease, and of remedy.

Robert Baird asked:

Since children react in general very quickly to treatment, any homeopathic remedies can usually be given in fewer doses than might be the case with an adult. If the symptoms are less acute, or in any case for young children, try the 6c potency first; in more acute circumstances give the 30 c potency. As soon as the symptoms are less pronounced reduce the frequency of the medication, or stop it altogether. If in any doubt about the right potency, get professional advice. Homeopathy is a wonderful system of treatment for children, with no problems of taste to overcome, and the range of remedies is very wide. Here are some typical remedies for childhood ailments:

Aconite: Give at the earliest onset of symptoms, very good for ailments brought on by catching a chill, getting wet and so on. The child may be upset, with a hot, dry skin and a thirst for cold water, and restless at night.

Argent nit: For agitation and anxiety perhaps when anticipating some event; the child is fidgety and restless. This remedy is strongly indicated if the child has a craving for sticky, sweet foods or ice-cream, but gets an upset stomach, nausea or even vomiting after eating.

Arnica: This is the remedy for shock, given after any minor bump or fall. It can be excellent to give before, and after, a visit to the dentist, to reduce tissue damage or bruising, and to help the healing process.

Arsen alb: For the child who gets fractious after any exertion, easily gets a stomach upset or mild food poisoning, and wants to be carried. Usually, the picture for indicating this remedy is one where the child is peevish, wants to go from one person to another, and gets very thirsty, taking frequent, although small, sips of fluid.

Belladonna: For sudden onset of symptoms, associated with great redness of the skin and face. All symptoms tend to be violently acute, there may be over-excitability or a bad headache. This is a good remedy to give a child who has had too much sun.

Chamomilla: For whining, cross and irritable children who can only be calmed with constant soothing and attention. In granule form, often at a very low potency such as 3 c(that is, diluted at one part in 1,000), this makes a highly useful remedy for infants who are teething.

Pulsatilla: For mild-natured children, who are easily moved to tears, yet can be obstinate. They often fear the dark, and generally liked to be fussed over and cuddled. If the child’s temperament is suited to Pulsatilla, then this remedy should be given no matter what the physical ailment.

Sulphur: For the child who demands things quickly, and sulks if they do not come immediately. Babies get hot easily, kick off the bedclothes, demand feeding often. This is a remedy that is often used in skin conditions, such as eczema or psoriasis, and suits children with rough, scaly and itchy skin.

Caution

Some of the plants used in homeopathy are poisonous, for example Aconite(Aconitum napellus) and Belladonna(Atropa belladonna). Do not try to use them as herbs!

Jim Pretin asked:

You may have heard of “homeopathy” but you are not sure what it is. Simply put, it is a system of medicine that treats a condition with highly diluted natural substances that mimic the symptoms of the condition being treated. This concept seems paradoxical to most.

Homeopathy is a difficult concept to grasp. How do you cure someone of an illness by giving them a tiny concentration of something that can actually cause the disease? One would think that this would simply make the person even more sick.

But, according to proponents of the science, homeopathy not only works, but is much more effective than conventional medicine. They claim that conventional medicine only suppresses the immune system and prolongs the illness.

There are actually quite a few homeopathic products in your local pharmacy. The FDA requires that homeopathic products indicate what kind of product it is somewhere on the packaging. The easiest way to tell what kind of product you are buying is by examining the list of ingredients on the back or the on the side of the packaging.

With homeopathy, all of the ingredients are diluted, so each ingredient in such a product has the letter “X” after it. So, if one of the ingredients is “Zinc 20X”, that means the product contains Zinc that has been diluted 20 times. One of the most popular cold medicines on the market, “Zicam,” is actually a homeopathic remedy that consists of diluted zinc in the form of a nasal gel.

There are homeopathic remedies available for almost every condition. Cold, flu, allergy, even bedwetting; there is a homeopathic remedy available for almost every condition.

Homeopathy is universally recognized as being safe, as the ingredients used are natural substances diluted many times over. Because there is such a small concentration of the ingredients, many opponents of the science, including the drug companies that make conventional medicines and are afraid of the growing popularity of natural medicine, claim that any relief an ill person receives after using a natural product is the result of the placebo effect.

Since the FDA does not require most natural products to undergo clinical testing before being sold to the public, the detractors feel that it does not actually work. So, who is telling the truth? Does homeopathy really work or is it a bunch of nonsense?

In my opinion, it works. There have been several clinical trials done over the years to test the efficacy of homeopathic products. Liddell Laboratories makes a product called Vital HGH. Vital HGH is designed to treat the symptoms of aging and/or a rundown condition.

In a small clinical trial performed years ago, a group of test subjects who were deficient in human growth hormone, ranging in age from 45 years and up, were given the Vital HGH formulation. The results speak for themselves. During the five month clinical trial, the levels of HGH in the blood increased in every test subject, and more than doubled the average level of HGH.

Homeopathy does work. I speak from personal experience. I used such a remedy to deal with the allergy attacks I was having, and the medicine not only stopped the attacks faster than the Claritin I had been taking previously, but it also prevented subsequent allergy attacks.

So, why is there a controversy? Well, there is a public perception that homeopathy is the same thing as holistic healing or faith-based medicine. This is simply not accurate.

Homepathy and natural medicine in general make big drug manufacturers worry that such products might be more effective for treating common illnesses as opposed to the more expensive prescription versions that make the pharmaceutical companies rich. Most natural products are incredibly cheap. A prescribed conventional medicine costs a lot more.

If the public began demanding natural remedies to treat their ailments, drug companies would have to make these kinds of products to stay in business, and then their profits would shrink. Imagine if Pfizer had to stop manufacturing Viagra, which they sell at $20-$30 per pill, and instead make a homeopathic product that would retail for only $20 for a one month supply.

This is why drug companies often spend significant amounts of money to debunk claims that homeopathy works, using a wide variety of misinformation tactics to instill a belief in the public that natural medicine is is not effective for treating common ailments.

I am not saying that you should discontinue the use of conventional medicines. But, next time you go to the pharmacy, take a look at some of the natural brands on the shelf and give them a try. For common ailments that are not life threatening, a homeopathic product is probably a cheaper and more effective alternative.

Joey Steen asked:

All throughout man’s civilization, medicine has played a very vital role in maintaining the health of people. In fact, shamans and medical figures were oftentimes occupying relatively high and significant positions in most ancient societies.  Up to now, people still put so much premium on medical professions. From crude concoctions to intensive medical procedures today, there is no doubt that man has developed his knowledge of medicine and medical treatments. However, the recent decades have seen mainstream regression towards more traditional and less invasive forms of medicine. One of them is homeopathy.

To delineate the differences between Homeopathy and Conventional Medicine, we must look into the main differences between the two according to:

I. Main Principles

Homeopathy

The main contention of homeopathy is that the treatment for an ill person is the same substance that can elicit symptoms of the disease to an otherwise healthy person. In this approach, both the physical and psychological states of the person are important in the selection of appropriate treatments.

Conventional Medicine

The main thesis of conventional medicine is that treatment can only be done to a person with disease. Otherwise, the person is healthy and requires no medical attention.

II. Main philosophy

Homeopathy

In essence, homeopathy is a vitalist philosophy which regards diseases, disorders and sicknesses as products of disturbances in the life force or the vital force. Such disturbances are the host of symptoms that distinguish one disease from another. In this type of approach, it is believed that the life force has the capacity to adapt to both internal and external causes. This phenomenon is more popularly known as the law of susceptibility. These further states that a negative state of mind could attract miasms or hypothetical diseases. These miasms could enter the body and produce the symptoms of a particular disease. Apart from this law, there are other central philosophies to which homeopathy adheres to such as like cures like, the principle of single remedy and the principle of minimal dosage.

Conventional Medicine

Conventional medicine is evidence-based and does not believe in the life force. Instead, its main philosophy is that a specific type of disease has a single agent or cause, therefore the use of a single therapy is sufficient enough to neutralize the condition. This single therapy is oftentimes in the form of surgery or synthetic drug. This philosophy is called is the doctrine of specific etiology.

III. Common remedies

Homeopathy

This approach often turns to nature for medicinal remedies (at least the more popular and known homeopathic practices). Preparation of remedies is basically in the form of succusion and dilution. In developing remedies, homeopaths make use of two processes—potentisation and dynamisation.

Conventional Medicine

In sharp contrast with homeopathy, conventional medicine makes use of synthetic and highly invasive forms of treatments. Medicines are normally produced in the laboratory from naturally-occurring substances. Due to the advancements in laboratory and clinical research, there are already numerous processes used to develop medicines and medical treatments. Nonetheless, common treatments come in the form of medication and drugs, therapies and others.

Homeopathy and conventional medicine may be incomparable by nature. However, they have the same guiding purpose—to find and provide cure for diseases, disorders and abnormalities in health.
