Jim Pretin asked:

You may have heard of “homeopathy” but you are not sure what it is. Simply put, it is a system of medicine that treats a condition with highly diluted natural substances that mimic the symptoms of the condition being treated. This concept seems paradoxical to most.

Homeopathy is a difficult concept to grasp. How do you cure someone of an illness by giving them a tiny concentration of something that can actually cause the disease? One would think that this would simply make the person even more sick.

But, according to proponents of the science, homeopathy not only works, but is much more effective than conventional medicine. They claim that conventional medicine only suppresses the immune system and prolongs the illness.

There are actually quite a few homeopathic products in your local pharmacy. The FDA requires that homeopathic products indicate what kind of product it is somewhere on the packaging. The easiest way to tell what kind of product you are buying is by examining the list of ingredients on the back or the on the side of the packaging.

With homeopathy, all of the ingredients are diluted, so each ingredient in such a product has the letter “X” after it. So, if one of the ingredients is “Zinc 20X”, that means the product contains Zinc that has been diluted 20 times. One of the most popular cold medicines on the market, “Zicam,” is actually a homeopathic remedy that consists of diluted zinc in the form of a nasal gel.

There are homeopathic remedies available for almost every condition. Cold, flu, allergy, even bedwetting; there is a homeopathic remedy available for almost every condition.

Homeopathy is universally recognized as being safe, as the ingredients used are natural substances diluted many times over. Because there is such a small concentration of the ingredients, many opponents of the science, including the drug companies that make conventional medicines and are afraid of the growing popularity of natural medicine, claim that any relief an ill person receives after using a natural product is the result of the placebo effect.

Since the FDA does not require most natural products to undergo clinical testing before being sold to the public, the detractors feel that it does not actually work. So, who is telling the truth? Does homeopathy really work or is it a bunch of nonsense?

In my opinion, it works. There have been several clinical trials done over the years to test the efficacy of homeopathic products. Liddell Laboratories makes a product called Vital HGH. Vital HGH is designed to treat the symptoms of aging and/or a rundown condition.

In a small clinical trial performed years ago, a group of test subjects who were deficient in human growth hormone, ranging in age from 45 years and up, were given the Vital HGH formulation. The results speak for themselves. During the five month clinical trial, the levels of HGH in the blood increased in every test subject, and more than doubled the average level of HGH.

Homeopathy does work. I speak from personal experience. I used such a remedy to deal with the allergy attacks I was having, and the medicine not only stopped the attacks faster than the Claritin I had been taking previously, but it also prevented subsequent allergy attacks.

So, why is there a controversy? Well, there is a public perception that homeopathy is the same thing as holistic healing or faith-based medicine. This is simply not accurate.

Homepathy and natural medicine in general make big drug manufacturers worry that such products might be more effective for treating common illnesses as opposed to the more expensive prescription versions that make the pharmaceutical companies rich. Most natural products are incredibly cheap. A prescribed conventional medicine costs a lot more.

If the public began demanding natural remedies to treat their ailments, drug companies would have to make these kinds of products to stay in business, and then their profits would shrink. Imagine if Pfizer had to stop manufacturing Viagra, which they sell at $20-$30 per pill, and instead make a homeopathic product that would retail for only $20 for a one month supply.

This is why drug companies often spend significant amounts of money to debunk claims that homeopathy works, using a wide variety of misinformation tactics to instill a belief in the public that natural medicine is is not effective for treating common ailments.

I am not saying that you should discontinue the use of conventional medicines. But, next time you go to the pharmacy, take a look at some of the natural brands on the shelf and give them a try. For common ailments that are not life threatening, a homeopathic product is probably a cheaper and more effective alternative.

Joette Calabrese asked:

Have you ever noticed how when you fail at something that you go through a certain process? Like when you were little, before learning to ride a bike - falling off, skinning your knee and running to Mom. Then the next step was: returning again and again until it was mastered. The process requires a burning desire, attention to details and observation of how others accomplish the task. Why not apply the same prototype to today’s challenges as adults?

Take Margaret, for example. Margaret was always a doer. You know, the kind of woman who never stopped learning and experiencing or changing careers with ease because the challenge was fun. Margaret was flying high on her career as an account executive for a large manufacturing firm when she was struck with multiple sclerosis. At first, the symptoms were mild, so when she entered her doctor’s office, she wasn’t alarmed. However, after weeks of tests and furthering muscle weakness, she began to worry about the outcome. When the doctor offered her drugs that wouldn’t cure her, but only manage the problem, she began questioning the decision to follow through. The side effects were written on the medication pack she was handed, albeit in print so small she literally needed a magnifying glass to make out the words. But it was indeed as clear as day. The side effects were equal to, if not more devastating than, the illness. She could have submitted without a struggle and simply taken the drugs. In fact, her husband felt she was foolish to pursue other options. “Why bother?” he had asked. “No”, she thought. “I will not be made worse for the sake of covering up symptoms. I must find another solution.”

And so Margaret got back up on her bike. First, she went to a psychiatrist because of the anxiety she was experiencing. He just offered more drugs. This appointment was followed by one with a chiropractor, then later a naturopath. Both gave some relief, but she was still not satisfied. “I will get rid of this”, she’d murmur. “I have a life to live.”

Finally, Margaret heard of a friend whose arthritis had been cured by a homeopath. “I will keep at this until I find a solution.” The first appointment was over the phone because the homeopath was out of town. After this initial meeting, Margaret was comforted. She was not told her MS would be cured, but the homeopath put it in a different way. “Your body is responding to an imbalance which causes symptoms. We will use the symptoms to determine which homeopathic remedy is best suited to antidote or address the imbalance. Once the energy of the illness is met by the energy of the remedy, it will be unnecessary for the body to react. Instead, the reactions to the disease or symptoms will be antidoted.”

Margaret wasn’t exactly sure what this all meant, but she did indeed notice that her urination improved within the 2nd week of taking the remedy, Causticum. Instead of losing urine when she stood, coughed or laughed, it was as though she had returned to her old self. Symptom by symptom, the disease seemed to melt away. It was so natural and not unlike the way she felt before being struck with MS, that she wondered if it was just a spontaneous remission. When she asked her homeopath about this, she addressed it squarely. “What is a remission”, she asked, “if not a period of well being after illness?” Yet Maraget continued to feel well and the next time she had her MRI, the proof was revealed. The lesions were gone!

So why hadn’t her doctors told her of this amazing medicine? Why had they been so focused on a medicine that had side effects? Perhaps she’ll never know. What Margaret DOES know is that she is free of her dreaded disease. Margaret is to be commended. She didn’t take one suggestion as the solution. Instead, she went through a decision making process that allowed her to become fully capable of the correct decision. Margaret has tenacity and stick-to–it resolve that paid off. And now she has her life back because of it.

According to the 1996 National Health Interview Survey, about 3 million people in the United States have frequent constipation. Those reporting constipation most often are women and adults age 65 and over. Pregnant women may have constipation, and it is a common problem following childbirth or surgery. To understand constipation, it helps to know how the colon (large intestine) works. As food moves through the colon, it absorbs water while forming waste products, or stool. Muscle contractions in the colon push the stool toward the rectum. By the time stool reaches the rectum, it is solid because most of the water has been absorbed.

Homeopathy

Seek a homeopath’s advice. “Used in conjunction with diet and lifestyle changes, homeopathic medicines provide an extra little push in relieving constipation,” says homeopath Dana Ullman. Among the medicines he prescribes are Bryonia, as a stool softener; Calcarea carbonica, for those who don’t feel the urge to go; and Nux vomica, for those who feel the urge but don’t pass anything. Which medicine will work best for you depends on your individual symptoms.

Chinese Medicine

Stick to spicy stimulators. Among practicioners of Chinese medicine, it is thought that constipation develops when there is an imbalance in the Large Intestine and Stomach organ systems, according to Efrem Korngold, O.M.D., L.Ac.

When treating patients who have constipation, practitioners of Chinese medicine often prescribe spicy foods to stimulate peristalsis. These foods include ginger, radishes, orange peel, persimmons, and rhubarb. In cases of mild constipation associated with indigestion or a cold, practitioners may also prescribe Curing Pills, which contain 15 different herbs.

Point a finger at the problem. Acupressure has proved effective in stimulating a balky bowel. Michael Reed Gach, founder and director of the Acupressure Institute, recommends applying steady, penetrating finger pressure to each of the following points for 3 minutes.

Large Intestine 11, located at the outer end of your elbow crease on the thumb side

Large Intestine 4, located on the back of your hand where the bones of your thumb and index finger meet

Conception Vessel 6, located three finger-widths directly below your navel

Stomach 25, located four finger-widths to either side of your navel

Stomach 36, located four finger-widths below your kneecap and one fingerwidth toward the outside of your shinbone

If acupressure doesn’t provide relief from constipation, consult an acupuncturist instead. Frequently, needle stimulation by a professional works when finger pressure doesn’t.

Joette Calabrese asked:

Fainting is a unique way for the body to display stress. Frightening experiences, as well as other emotional times in ones life, are nearly always met with a physical component. And fainting is no exception. It occurs when the heart suddenly fails in its normal action. It most often afflicts women and the “faint hearted” and the causes for fainting spells are often varied.

Certainly, it makes sense when loss of consciousness arises after a hemorrhage such as after surgery, or from hearing bad news . This happened after 911. But, even good news can cause a fainting spell as when a lost loved one returns from the rubble alive. Fainting can occur from hunger, ill ventilated crowded rooms or from the sight of blood. Tight clothing may be a contributing factor, so it is best to gently lay the person flat, keeping the head low, loosening tight collars and waist bands and asking others to step aside so that as much fresh as possible is allowed to circulate. These simple rules can avert most cases of fainting, but if the episodes are repeated or elongated, it is wise to treat with homeopathy.

Homeopathy is a two hundred year old medical method that is used throughout the world by homeopathic doctors and hospitals. In the US, it was considered a mainstay of 40% of the doctors until the 1940’s. Its demise came as a result of political in-fighting between medical factions, but today it is making a comeback in the US, while it continues to thrive in Europe and India. It has the reputation for dealing with the most ardent illnesses and can aptly eliminate fainting spells in short order. In using this method, the choice of remedy is closely linked to the cause of the spells.

Sudden fear associated with restlessness and a feeling of impending doom is quickly put to rest with a dose or two of Aconitum 30. Fainting from sudden joy is relieved with Coffea 30 while fainting from grief or sudden bad news is best met with Ignatia. Occasionally, fainting can come in the form of twitching of limbs and hysterical fits. This can be brought on by terror and nervousness and may also present with the kind of fear and apprehensiveness experienced by soldiers before battle that causes diarrhea. This is a call for Gelsemium. In all of the above situations, a dose of the appropriate remedy administered every 5-10 minutes while the person is still unconscious, then every 15 minutes until normalcy is established, is the most expedient way to recovery. Since homeopathic remedies dissolve quickly in the mouth, they can be placed between the gums and lips and will be accepted readily via the mucosa. They needn’t be digested in the stomach.

Frightening experiences, diarrhea, trembling, fainting… Homeopathy is a soothing solution to life’s mishaps. It’s gentle, polite method gently removes the illness at hand and restores the person to full use and vigor. What other method of medicine do you know that revives fainting as well as addressing the exciting cause? It removes the fear so thoroughly that it reaches back into the past and sets a sufferer in order physically and mentally. Homeopathy is the medicine of millions. Make it yours for the next time life is unyielding.

Peter Bezemek asked:

While homeopathy had been around for more than 200 years, a serious use of homeopathic software is a question of the last 20 years at maximum. Despite the massive advantages of using the homeopathic software, there is still a great number of homeopathic practitioners who don’t feel the need to invest their time and money into such kind of fancy.

The difference in practicing homeopathy in the modern days and a hundred years ago might not be obvious at first. Why should anyone waste their time learning to use a homeopathic software, if our predecessors could easily do without it? Or could they?

If you think about the invention of homeopathic repertory (such as Kent’s repertory, to name the most famous one, although it was not the first), you can clearly see the incentive to organize the growing amount of information, which was quickly outgrowing the limits of human capacity. Since they did not have computers at the time, the information was organized into rubrics and corresponding remedies and published as a book, which was a fantastic thing to do, because it greatly enhanced and simplified the tedious process of finding the matching remedy for the patient’s symptoms.

With repertories around, the life got easier for homeopaths, but still far from easy. Even with a repertory, the practitioner still needed to spend quite bit of time learning the structure of rubrics. Since repertory is basically a database of rubrics linked to remedies, its implementation in homeopathic software is pretty straightforward, with one essential difference – in homeopathic software, you DON’T need to learn the structure of the repertory before you can use it. With powerful search functions available in homeopathic softwares, you can start using ANY repertory right now!

With the ability to locate the matching rubrics quickly and easily (good homeopathic software should also implement the use of synonyms and cross-references), you can make your evaluation in a time span of several minutes, which leaves you a plenty of time to study the case using several approaches, peek into materia medica for confirmation etc. If you would have to do the same manually (without any homeopathic software), it would take you several hours to do it properly and that’s why very few practitioners do it. Experienced homeopaths who do not use any homeopathic software prescribe on keynotes or key symptoms for each remedy. But imagine this – even if you knew a hundred keynotes for hundred remedies (I am quite confident they usually know no more than twenty per remedy), you are still hopelessly far to encompass tens of thousands of symptoms available in modern repertories.

The conclusion is obvious: if a homeopathic practitioner does not use any homeopathic software, even with a phenomenal memory, they are putting the largest part of homeopathic knowledge away and utilizing just that tiny fraction they can master. What a waste.

With widespread use of many suppressing drugs pharmaceutical industry produces, the cure is more difficult to achieve than it was a hundred years ago. It is therefore even more essential to base our prescriptions on solid foundations and without limitations of oversimplification required by non-computerized approach.

Kyle J. Norton asked:

As we mentioned in the previous Articles, cold and Flu are the most commonly occurring illnesses in the entire world, with more than 1 billion colds per year reported in the United States alone. The common cold is a self-limiting illness caused by any 1 of more than 200 viruses. You usually do not need to call your doctor if you catch a cold. For more severe symptoms or a prolonged duration of symptoms, you should visit your doctor. An office visit will usually be fine.

Homeopathy have been proven to help relieve cold or flu. The homeopathy physician analyzes many factors, including the speed of onset of symptom, sensation, how the patient looks and his or her mental state.

1.Early stages of cold and flu

a) Aconite

This remedy is often prescribed for robust people, as well as those who eat meat often. Only 30c pellets under the tongue is needed to get a cold to disappear.

b) Belladonna

Belladonna is a remedy for serious symptoms of cold, flu, infection and sore throat.

c) Ferrum phosphoricum

This remedy is for people with a weak immune system. Cold and flu symptoms are not vague but uncomfortable. There might be a slight earache, running nose and a mild sore throat.

2. Mid-stage of cold and flu

a) Allium Cepa

People with mid stage of cold are given allium cepa when their eyes are watery and clear but nose is red and irritated. Other symptoms include multiple sneezes and burning nasal discharge.

b)Natrum Muriaticum

Person has a thick, clear fluid discharge that resembles raw egg white. Lips are dry and cracked with cold sores on the side or outside of the mouth.

3. For advanced stages of cold and flu

a) Arsenicum Album

People with symptoms of burning eyes, sinus, irritation in the nose, sneezing, extreme chill, restlessness and fever. This person feels worse at night and better in the morning.

b) Mercurius vivus

The cold is already in the advanced stage and the immune system is weakened. People have soar throats that feel with swallowing, as well as sneezing, bad cough, and night sweats.

c) Hepar Sulph

This remedy helps deep colds and flu when this turns into infection and sinusitis. The person is very chilly and there is often mucus in the lung with thick and yellow discharge. Antibiotics may be used. I hope this information will help. If you want to read more, please visit my home page:

CarolAnn Bailey-Lloyd asked:

Today, homeopathy programs are not only offered as a stand-alone course, but as part of larger naturopathic medicine and Oriental medicine school curricula; however, if you are seriously considering a career in homeopathic medicine, you should first explore your professional opportunities in the field. For example, there are currently three States - Arizona, Connecticut, and Nevada that specifically license medical doctors in homeopathy; in addition, there are well over 25 homeopathy programs throughout the United States and in Canada, so location is something to take into consideration before applying to the school of choice.

In the United States and in Canada, graduates of homeopathy programs can earn a diploma or certificate; and have the option to take short courses or home study courses. During the initial training, homeopathy programs introduce candidates to the foundations of homeopathic medicine, including the history and philosophy of homeopathy (i.e., Organon of the Medical Art, principles of homeopathy, mind-body medicine, etc.), Study of the Repertory; case analysis, taking and observation; Materia Medica studies, and pharmacy. In the second year of homeopathy programs, students gain practical training in a clinical setting and begin applying homeopathic principles, in-depth studies in Materia Medica, and the actual management of cases.

Other training options include veterinary homeopathy programs that are intended for our canine, equine and feline counterparts. These courses of study, much like traditional homeopathic medicine, include many of the same studies, with an emphasis on animals.

Overall, graduates of homeopathy programs will have acquired the knowledge and training to apply healthcare treatments like herbs, nutritional counseling, and other medicinal substances for health problems like ear infections, diabetes, skin allergies, and other common health conditions. Using the principles of “like cures like,” homeopathic practitioners seek to treat patients with a holistic perspective (treating the “whole” person; mind, body and spirit).

If you (or someone you know) are interested in finding homeopathy programs, let professional training within fast-growing industries like natural healing, cosmetology, acupuncture, oriental medicine, Reiki, and others get you started! Explore homeopathy programs near you.

Sue Perkins asked:

Through a number of trials Homeopathy ADHD treatments have shown to be effective in reducing the ADHD symptoms of restlessness, inattentiveness and impulsiveness.

The main treatments that most people know about and that most people with ADHD are using are stimulant medications. These act by changing chemicals in the brain to reduce symptoms. Homeopathy takes a different.

Unlike the stimulant drugs homeopathy does not try to suppress elements of an individuals behavior, rather it aims to redress any imbalance in the body naturally without altering the body with drugs. This has the outcome of reducing the symptoms of ADHD without changing or altering the personality or physical elements, one of the main side effects of stimulants.

Homeopathy reviews a person in their entirety, so practitioners will take detailed medical histories so they can address all the ailments that maybe effecting a person.

So, rather than focusing only on the ADHD, they might look at why a child always has a cold or reoccurring ear infections etc. Treatments are always individualized and the risk of side effects is low if the treatment has been accurately chosen and the dosages are correct.

Homeopathic remedies are prepared by deriving substances from plants, animals, and minerals. The most common form of this homeopathic medicine is in the form of small sweet-tasting tab that you let dissolve in your mouth. Since the taste tends to be sweet, parents treating their ADHD children generally don’t have difficulty getting them to take it.

What are the specific benefits for someone with ADHD if treated with homeopathy medicine?

Children with ADHD who take homeopathy medicine appear to show significant positive results. The following are benefits that your child may have once given with such treatment:

• improved attention

• improved grades

• improved ability to concentrate more on school work

• improved social skills

• more co-operative

• improved self-esteem

• decreased physical exhaustion

• decreased mental and emotional problems

• decreased restlessness, aggressiveness, impulsivity, and other inappropriate behavioral problems

If you were interested in trying a course of homeopathic treatment for your child it would be a good idea to consult your doctor and ask if they can refer you to a homeopathic practitioner.

Homeopathic medicine should be fine to take alongside stimulant drugs, however ensure you keep your doctor informed of any additional treatments you plan to implement.

Over the long time old days while human empire has development hugely and so has science. Scientific creations and technological growths have been instrumental in shifting the face of human society. Medical science too has undertaking distant and broad and has seen various generous inventions and discoveries in the earlier period centuries. The learning of medicine has also been sub divided into various parts and one important branch learn of medical science is homeopathy. Homeopathy is a branch of medical science which concentrates on the natural healing power of the body and so stresses cure with placing more significance on the body’s own immune system. Over the years homeopathic treatment has emerged as a preferred alternative among various parts of the population because it gives one with the option of healing naturally without having to consume allopathic medicines and antibiotics having powerful effects.

In case of acne treatment, homeopathy is found to be very successful and for this reason it is necessary to the dermatologist be aware of the information about the patient’s medical history prior to cure. This is deeply connected to the cause of acne formations on the skin. The inconsistency in the functioning of the sebaceous glands and the duct system is straight accountable for the creation of reddish swellings on the surface of the body skin leaving behind ugly blemishes on the skin. Furthermore, stress and hormonal imbalances are also accountable for acne creations. So, in order to examine the causes behind acne creation and so give adequate and appropriate medication, it is very significant for the dermatologist to be familiar with methodically about the patient’s lifestyle, eating and sleeping habits, temperaments etc. This is one of the significant modes of homeopathic treatment of acne as here the causes of acne formation are most importantly accountable for ensuring the type of medication to be given quite than the situation of the inflammation on the skin.

Homeopathy makes use non chemical and natural products and a number of of the prominent acne treatment ingredients commence with the usage of cold packs or anti bacteria soaps to clean the skin. This is typically followed by using herbal components similar to calcerea carbonica and antimonium tartaricum upon the skin. It has been exposed through wide research that these ingredients used commonly in case of homeopathic acne treatments are very successful in regulating hormone levels as hormonal imbalances facilitate the development of acne on the skin.
